Potty Training

Since our founding in 2011, Paving Pathways has helped hundreds of children. There are certain issues we have encountered many times: eating challenges, bedtime/morning challenges, and potty training challenges. We have developed Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy programs that teach the essential life skills needed to overcome these challenges. The below programs are a baseline for treatment which are adapted for each child accordingly.

Potty Training

Our potty training programs are designed to last one to two weeks. We have three approaches for dealing with potty training challenges. Many times, we will combine tactics from one or more of these approaches depending on the needs of the child. These approaches are:

  • Reducing Anxiety about the potty. As with many major life changes, children often develop anxiety about transitioning from diapers to the potty. Once this anxiety is reduced, potty training becomes much easier. We take a systematic approach to relieving your child’s anxiety so that he or she can be in the state of mind necessary for transitioning to a potty.
  • Scheduled potty training. Regardless of diagnosis, children are able to learn new life skills through consistency. By adhering to a consistent schedule and proper use of reinforcement and correction techniques, we are able to introduce stability to an often times tumultuous transition.
  • Intensive potty training. Certain children transition best to potty usage when we make it their sole focus for a short period of time, usually five to seven days. This intensive approach involves suspending your child’s everyday routine and structuring all activities around potty training.
